The story
Music has been part of my life since I was five. Teaching lets me share that feeling of discovery every week.
Originally from Taiwan, Pokie began his musical studies at age five. He completed high school at Interlochen Arts Academy, studying with Dr. Michael Coonrod, and continued at Lawrence University with Dr. Michael Kim.
He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Professor Phillip Kawin. Along the way, he worked with distinguished pianists and artist teachers including Jeremy Denk, Nina Seryogina, Vladimir Feltsman, Herbert Stessin, and Avi Reichert.
Pokie has performed solo and chamber music internationally, including at the Aspen Music Festival, PianoSummer at New Paltz, and the International Academy of Music in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Today, he teaches students of all ages across New York and online, serves as a NYSSMA adjudicator, is a Steinway Educational Partner, and sits on the Executive Board of the Piano Teachers Congress of New York.
